Linux kernel version 5.13 includes support for newer ARM-based chips, so hopefully support for mainstream distributions like Ubuntu isn’t too far off. Corellium has already achieved Linux port to run natively on an M1 chip, but the process is much more complicated than simply writing a disk image file to a USB stick. Unfortunately, at the time of writing this article in July 2021, this technique will not work on newer Apple Silicon Macs with the M1 system on chip or later.
